found object sculpture

two bodies of work exist within James Emmett’s found object sculptures -

transition series - james explores themes of his body as an assigned female at birth trans-masculine human being. He uses syringe needle heads from weekly testosterone shots and some natural element to depict a vulva and often a bleeding vulva in these pieces. He does this to honor his body, a body that has been in menstruation and out of menstruation various times in his life due to hormone replacement therapy and to reconcile with the loss he feels when he is out of menstruation.

fun - James centers his approach with these sculptures to celebrate the absurdity of life, holding the complexities and nuances of two truth’s, life is infinitelty silly and everything is connected to everything else. There is no originality or first, there is only generation, form built upon and from form, and recycling.
